Ms. Townsend has 26 years of experience with an extensive multidisciplinary background in community, environmental and transportation planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), socio-economic/demographic analysis, sustainability and community resilience. She is an active leader in the integration of planning and GIS tools in planning applications, training and facilitation, and promoting planning and GIS integration across various industries. Teresa is a founding partner of Planning Communities delivering innovative planning, policy, research and tool/application development services to a wide range of clients and communities. Teresa is an active proponent in advancing the industry and is the current URISA President as well as having a recent prior 3 year term as a Board Member of the URISA International Board. She is a founding member of Triangle Area GIS-TAG (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC) and TAG’s Women in GIS- RTP. Teresa has also served in leadership positions within Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) and is actively involved with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) serving as the Committee Communications Coordinator and member of the Environmental Analysis in Transportation Committee, former Chair of the Community Impact Assessment Subcommittee, a past member of the Social and Economic Factors of Transportation and the TRB Context Sensitive Solutions Task Force as well as conference planning committee member for NCGIS and URISA GIS in Transit and the URISA GIS & Health Symposium Chair.
